I’ve noticed an increase in visitors arriving via searches engines for abuse related information.
When times are stressful, such as major holidays and bad economic times, acts of violence increases. Though this may be a fact, don’t let the time of year or hard economic times become excuses that allows someone to escape taking responsibility for behaving abusively. There is no excuse or reasoning, logic or rationale that makes hurting another person right or appropriate.
Domestic violence is a subject that is unpleasant to discuss, but one that I feel strongly about. I believe that everyone should be aware of what is considered abusive, how to “spot” an abuser before its too late (I wish I had known), how and where to get help if you find yourself in an abusive situation.
The following video offers useful information for anyone who is in an abusive situation. Note: Though this video focuses on men battering women, men can also experience abuse from their domestic partner.
In the next video, Patrick Stewart, on behave of Amnesty, discusses his experience with domestic violence and how it affected him.
