People have been lead to think that a soul mates and twin flames are people who are intended to “fall in love” and marry or to be life partners. Though that could be the experience between soul mates or twin flames, it’s not always the case.
What is a Soul Mate?
A soul mate is someone who triggers feelings in you of a deep and natural kinship, to whom you experience a sense of familiarity and comfort. Since relationships include family, friends, lovers and marriage partners, this could be anyone you feel especially close to in your life. Someone you feel in tune with, deep into the soul level.
Sometimes when you meet someone new, you might feel an irrational negative reaction. You immediately “don’t like them.” These reactions could indicate a previous life connection. Not all relationships in our lifetime will be karmic in nature. You will interact with many people with whom you will share experiences with and learn from.
One thought is that a soul chooses its karmic experiences before birth, such as choosing one’s parents. The journalist and author, Ruth Montgomery, was one of the first to write books on this subject. Another thought compares it to a magnetic pull to parents and soul mates who match a soul’s karmic needs.
I tend to give some credit to that belief because of a dream I had when I was younger. This dream happened long before the new age movement and soul concepts that didn’t follow religious teachings. This is what I remember of the circumstances and the dream.
One evening I was in a lot of emotional and mental turmoil. Out of despair and frustration, which was caused by my inability to understand why things were happening the way they were, I cried out, “Why is my life this way?” That night a man dressed in robes appeared to me in a dream and told me, “You asked for this.” At the time I didn’t understand what that meant and couldn’t imagine why anyone would ask for such a life. If we take into consideration reincarnation and karma, then the dream makes more sense.
Twin Flames or Twin Souls
Another spiritual relationship is the Twin Flame or Twin Soul. These terms are used to describe people with whom one feels as though they have found a spiritual twin. Another definition is that one feels as though they have found the other half of their soul.
Lynne V. Andrews wrote a series of books describing her spiritual journey. She wrote that a soul can end a karmic connection during a life time, even though the other soul involved in the relationship may not have ended their karmic connection. This concept would explain how one might feel a deep attraction or connection to a person who doesn’t share the same feelings.
The one prevailing misconception regarding soul mate or twin flame relationships is that they are meant to be together and will last until the end of one’s life. Though this could be the case, there are no guarantees that they will. Nor are these relationships always happy or healthy.
No matter how strong of a connection you might feel towards another, sometimes it’s necessary to move forward, leaving the other person to work out their lessons without you. If a person is forced to separate from someone before their karmic lesson is completed, they will intuitively search for someone who can help them fulfill this need.
Once a karmic lesson is fulfilled, we will move toward new experiences.
