People tend to either have a definite belief or disbelief in the idea that ghosts and spirits are around us. Despite stories told by those who had these experiences, there are still those who remain firm that such things did not and can not happen.
A ghost is the essence or energy of a person who had lived in the physical world, just like you and I, but died due to some type of trauma and are unaware that they died. There are also those who died and appeared to loved one’s still living, in order to give love and comfort. Many put them in the category of ghosts too, but I look at them as spirits.
Maybe it’s a matter of semantics, but the term ghost creates an eerie and fearful reaction in people. Though there may be some ghosts that do cause alarm and give reason to make people question their intentions, the spirits that have interacted with me only alarmed me because when I had my first experience, I didn’t understand.
Here’s a story that took place about 20 years ago. My husband’s two nephews and niece were riding in the bed of their dad’s pickup. There were mattresses that were tied down in the bed of the truck as well. While traveling down the freeway, one of the ties holding the mattresses came loose and a mattress lifted up and knocked the one nephew’s out of the back of the truck and into coming traffic. He was tumbling, so even though he could see cars coming towards him, he didn’t have control over his movements. He survived with only injuries caused from repeatedly hitting the pavement. How was he so lucky? He swears that someone lifted him and moved him away from the danger. Only there wasn’t anyone that came to his aid and helped him to safety. The boy who was around 12 years old at the time, believed in Guardian Angels after that experience.
I believe spirits are around us and when we are open to them, they will communicate with us. My personal experience proved to me that there is something that can not be explained by what is considered normal.
My first experience was when I was a child. At night when everything was quiet, I would hear odd noises. After awhile, I gave up asking my mother about them because she always would tell me they were my imagination.
When something started waking me during the night tickling my back, telling myself that it was my imagination didn’t make it stop. Even though it only involved tickling, it was scary because no one can tickle a person’s back while they’re laying on their back, plus I was the only one in the room and it would only happen whenever I was sleeping on my back.
I slept in this bedroom until I got married and left my parents home. Eventually I had children of my own, but I never told my husband or my children about my experiences in that bedroom.
One year, my young daughter visited my parents and she slept in my old bedroom. It wasn’t until she was in her mid twenties though, that she talked to me about that visit in more detail.
We were talking and somehow the conversation moved to her visit to my parents. She mentioned that she didn’t sleep well while there. She proceeded to describe how she would wake up during the night being tickled.
As an adult, I had become busy with my family and day to day life and had not given any more thought to my nighttime experiences in that room, until my daughter shared her experience with me. Then the memories flooded back to me. A few years later, I heard about another ghost experience in that bedroom.
I have a brother and sister who are several years older and left home while I was still quite young. So I didn’t hear their ghost story until many years after my own experience.
My sister insists that she and our brother saw a ghost in that bedroom. Her story goes, our brother who was around two years old, woke up during the night and came into the bedroom and woke her. About this time, they both froze with fear as they saw a ghostly form in the room. She doesn’t know how much time pasted before it disappeared.
Their story along with my daughter’s and my own, verified that what we experienced wasn’t caused by an over active imagination on our part.
